Why are most packages shipped from East coast?

Hi, I just had a question out of curiosity. I live in WA state and order things online somewhat regularly. Out of the 15/20 things I’ve ordered in the last year (from various sites including ebay, amazon, and etsy, etc…) All but one of the packages is shipped from the east coast. Or at least, the eastern half of the U.S. Why is this? Is there a particular reason or is it coincidence?

The shipping centers are located close to areas of highest population density but also factored in is cost of operation. By doing that shippers can leverage lower overall postage costs especially with companoes like UPS where all rates are also distance based. There’s a bit of irony in this because most of the items you’re buying are probably coming from the West coast by way of the Orient.
